I have spent countless hours playing this game, and highly recommend it for the strategy gamer. This is painful, because you may lose hours of play. Be very careful when you save the game in campaign mode, because you only have one save slot, and if you save the game at a point at which it is impossible for you to win, you will have to start the entire campaign over again. There are 2 campaigns that are highly challenging.

I have never played this game against other players, I mostly played campaign mode. You will very quickly learn the ins and outs of monster management. If all of this sounds complicated, it's not. This makes for great strategy in gameplay as you attempt to pit the best monster to defeat an opponents monster.

Some monsters will be almost useless against the wrong monster type. Some damage types are more effective against other monsters than others. Secondly, all monsters do damage of a specific type.
